DAILY HIGHLIGHT Diablo Canyon Unit 1 - Status February 20 - February 24, 1984 Unit 1 RCS heatup was achieved using RCS pump heat.

Mode 4 (hot shutdown) was of 250*F. reached on 2/20/84 pm at primary loop pressure of 350 psi and temperature for inspection of piping interference. Pressure and temperaturd were maintained was raised to 340*F. On 2/22/84 pm, primary loop temperature RCS piping snubbers. During inspection minor interference was identified on above 350*F) was expected for 2/24/84They appear to be not significant. Mode 3 (R on lower end turns of motor.During this period RCS pump 1-3 was out of service repaired at site. Preliminary analysis indicates that motor can be Hot System testing is planned for week of 2/26/84 Information is current as of 2/24/84 pm.

DAILY HIGHLIGHT Status of Diablo Canyon, Unit i

1. Control rod testing approximately 70% complete, I&C still worktng on position indicator problem with one drive assembly.
2. Between 12/8/83 and 12/12/83 reactor temperature will be increased to approximately 165*. Chemical control will be established on the primary loop in' preparation:.for heat-up arid criticality.' phase.. '

To assure positive control of oxygen, all exposed areas will be inerted with nitrogen.

3. Condensate flush preparations are in progress and program is scheduled to start on 12/12/83.
4. Cold system tests scheduled for completion on 12/15/83.

DAILY HIGHLIGHT Diablo Canyon, Unit 1, .

1. The primary system is " solid" at 400 psi. Reactor Coolant pumps have been operated on the 1-minute and 10-minute cycles.
2. The missile shield is in place and remaining modification work has been started on the dome service crane.
3. The condenser hydrotest is complete. Several condenser tubes have leaks in the rolled joint on the tube sheet (tubes can be rerolled tostopleakage).
4. Testing of the control rod drives has been started (current test, coil current test and rod drop test).

The information is current as of December 6,1983.

DAILY HIGHLIGHT Diablo Canyon, Unit 1 Diablo' Canyon, Unit 1 is currently in mode 5 (. cold shutdownl. The reactor vessel head bolts are fully tensioned. The reactor coolant pumps (RCPs) have been coupled and the RCP seal injection flow has been established. Limited construction activities associated with items that need to be completed prior to proceedin to initial criticality is being performed below elevation 140 within the containment. The main condenser is being filled to perform a hydrostatic test.in preparation for condensate flush operation.

DAILY HIGHLIGHT Diablo Canyon Units 1 & 2 The reactor vessel head is installed 'and the first pass of the bolt tensioning is complete. The only problem with installation of reactor intervals was with two control rod clusters that were slightly bowed, did not pass the drag test and had to be replaced. After-the second pass of bolt' tensioning is done and the reactor coolant pumps operable, the plant will be ready for cold testing.

All contruction activities inside containment have been halted until fuel loading has been completed and the vessel head put into place.

Asof0700(PST)onNovember 17, 1983, 50 fuel element assemblies had been loaded. By 0700 (PST) on November 18, 1983, a total of 77 fuel element assemblies have been loaded. Approximately 119 fuel element assemblies remain to be loaded. There has been a delay due to the air drive motor on the transfer trolley seizing. The motor s is being replaced and fuel load restart is anticipated to begin at '

1200(PST) November 18, 1983.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company began fuel loading operations on November 15, 1983.
