SUBJECT:
DAILY HIGHLIGHT DIABLO CANYON An earthquake of magnitude 6 on the Richter scale occurred on Tuesday, April 24, 1984 at 1:15 pm PST on the Calaveres Fault in central California with the epicenter approximately 12 miles east of San Jose. At the Diablo Canyon site (approximately 150 miles south) the event did not trip the Kinemetric seismic instrument which has a trip level of 0.01 g.
The event was registered on a second, very sensitive instrumentation system. The system has 22 sensors throughout the plant. Prior to having the tape output analyzed offsite the plant staff evaluated 4 output tapes, the highest acceleration of which was 0.00056g.
