SUBJECT:

DAILY HIGHLIGHT Diablo Canyon On early Saturday (April 21,1984) a seal water leak of approximately 2 gpm was identified at a reactor main coolant pump of Diablo Canyon Unit 1.

The reactor was in Mode 3 (Hot Standby) at about 900 psig and 430"F in preparation for criticality (Tech. Spec. allowable identified leakage is 10 gpm).

PG&E suspects that the leak is around an "0" rin and the seal package (see attached drawing)g seal between the RC pump housing

. On Sunday morning PG8E decided to cool the system down and replace the "0" ring seal.

PG8E expects the replacement to be completed late Tuesday and to go critical 2 to 3 ' days later.
