Docket No. 50-219 Facility Operating License No. DPR-16 10 CFR 50 Appendix R Fire Protection -Thermo-Lag Resolution This letter confirms resolution of the Thermo-Lag fire barriers in fire zones OB-FZ-6A and OB-FZ-6B (480V Switchgear Rooms) in accordance with previous commitments contained in GPU Nuclear's letters to the NRC dated October 19,1996 (6730-96-2210) and October 1,1997 (6730- )

97-2247). Upgrade or modification of the existing installed Thermo-Lag 1-hour fire barriers using Mecatiss fire barrier material has been completed for these fire zones. Reevaluation ofinstalled

]

Thermo-Lag on ventilation system duct work within these fire zones has detennined that this l protection is not required for the subject duct work. Additionally, in response to OCNGS LER 98-  !

002, a circuit bypass modification has been installed in the 480V Switchgear Room ventilation system fan control logic to correct an identified deficiency in the original installed fire barrier protection. Accordingly, GPU Nuclear considers the Thermo-Lag fire barrier issue resolved for i fire zones OB-FZ-6A and OB-FZ-6B and compensatory measures have been removed from these j two fire zones since the effected fire barriers have been restored to operable status.
