8. 'Ihermal asconbiners - Af ter Div. II failed the 6 month I surveillanc2 by failing to heat in time, the heater circuit  !

was verifie3 to be working properly, and thus, the leaking mechanical seal was suspected to be allowing excess water into the reaction chaser. At this time pressures and floss to the mechanical seal were checked and it was suspected that with an KIR pum running excessive pressure was on the seal. A tem mod (87-006) was installed with pressure gauges and throttle valves on the seal water lines in order to verify pressures and control flow. During the testing process the Div. 1. The critical path for co@leting Gll35 runs through PRLT Section 6.11 (Waste Slurry Feed System), PRET Section 6.13 (Drum Handling System), and PRLT Section 6.5 (Centrifuge Operation and Flush System) . Key item inpacting 6.11 include performance of SOE Section 5.14 Steps 44 to 108, Waste Slurry Logic Test (SOE 5.5), and develop;ent of TN 6.11. Key activities imacting PRLT Section 6.13 include troubleshooting the accumulator conveyor logic problem and EDP 2963 modification. The key schedule impacts to PRLT Section 6.5 include aoproval of TN 6.5 and installation of Centrifuge Trop e arm soring. Based on forecasts for completion of these critical path items, PRLT Gil35.001 will finish !! arch 26, 1937. However, at of February 15,1987 the nolid rabsste startup project was terminated by order of the plant manager.
  1. 2. Tne performance of SOE Section 5.14, Steps 44 to 109 is restrained because of a pumo f ailure. As of January 29, 1987 the puan was being repaired and should be co::nlete by February 1, 1937.

- 11aintenanca !!onthly Report January,1987 j Page 58 VII. GFMGE MlU9EMENT A. Highlights On Janua:y 8,1987 the plant was shutdown to repair steam leaks on instrument pressure taps on the main steam line. Engineering an3 Maintenance performe3 walkdowns of the steam lines to identify the scope of repairs. EDPs were issued to cut and cap taps that were no longer nee $ed and to modify piping and valves on instrument lines that were still in use. Strain gauges were also installed l on the instrument lines and the 52" rcanifold to raonitor stresses.

Work on the steam lines was coapleted on 01/21/87.

Thermal reco2iner testing an6 repairs was part of the original scope and ware on the critical path for a period of time. Seals were replaced on both Div. I and Div. 2 recotiners and a circu.t board was repaired on Div. I. Proble:.c with seal leakage on Div.

2 was the reason ~for this wo;k copearing on the critical path.

Tac problem involved the alignment of the :aotor to the blo;ter. A tema mod was also installed to monitor inlet and outlet water 8 pressure to the seal. Work on the Taermal Reco2 iners was finished on 01/22/87.

On 01/14/87, during the outage, a problem wa- identified with the Div. I CCIWAC chiller. A PN-21 was written to insnect and rcT ir the chiller. Upon insoection it was found that the bearings we;e destroye3, the impeller was da:aaged and the raotor would require replace:nent. Through concentrated efforts a new motor av1 bearings were located and the i::peller was machined. Tnis a11ove3 work on the chiller to be co::pleted on 01/24/87.

Tne clant wan restarted on 01/24/87 but problems arose wnen there was an inability to maintain condenser vruum. Tne plant remained l ,

at about 51 poser while investigations into the problem were l ongoing. On 01/28/87 it was decided to put the plant in Hx Standby Status and inspect the steam side of tne condenser. Tae inspection revealed no problems but shortly after it was discovered that a drain valve on the N30 system was in the open position when it should have been in the closed. The valve was closed and the plant was brought out of Hot Standby on 01/29/87.

While power was being increased, steam leaks were discovered on the instrument lines off the main steam line. The plant was again put into Hot Standby and the instru:aent lines were cut an3 caoned. On 01/30/87 the plant was brought out of !!ot Standby and startup testing resu:aed.
