Dear Mr. McCollum:

E On August 17, 1995, the NRC issued Generic letter (GL) 95-07, " Pressure j ., Locking and Thermal Binding of Safety-Related Power-Operated Gate Valves,"

to request that licensees take actions to ensure that safety-related power-operated gate valves that,are susceptible to pressure locking or thermal I a binding are capable of performing their safety functions. You responded by letters dated February 13 and July 31, 1996. On January 23 and February 10, j 1997, the staff discussed by phone details of your responses with your staff i who indicated that some of your GL 95-07 commitments have changed. Your staff agreed to submit an additional response detailing these changes. This additional information, as discussed in the enclosure, is needed in order for

During the telephone conversation on February 10, 1997,

! your staff stated that these valves would be evaluated for susceptibility j to pressure locking and thermal binding. Please confirm.

3. Your GL 95-07. response stated that valves 1,2 NS12B, 0158, 29A and 32A, i containment spray headers isolation, are not exposed to pressure locking j conditions. During the telephone conversation on January 23, 1997, your 1

staff stated that procedures would be modified to cycle the valves

following evolutions that could potentially pressurize the valves' l bonnets. Please confirm.
