. t PALO VERDE NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION UNIT 1 Special Report No.1-SR-66-003 RADIATIOh h0NITORING UNIT NOT RESTORED TO OPERABLE STATUS WITHIN 72 HOURS Docket No. STN 50-528 License No. NPF-41 l

At 1442, on January 22,1986, the 72 hour8.333333e-4 days
0.02 hours
1.190476e-4 weeks
2.7396e-5 months
ACTION Statement for operability of the Plant Vent High Range Radiation Monitor (RU-144) was exceeded. The monitor was declared inoperable on January 19, 1986, as a result of the Plant Vent Iow Range Radiation Monitor (RU-143) being declared inoperable due to spurious indication of high radiation. This spurious indication was verified to be invalid by sampling.

The system is designed so that inoperability of the low range monitor renders the high range monitor inoperable. RU-144 remained inoperable for greater than 72 hours8.333333e-4 days
0.02 hours
1.190476e-4 weeks
2.7396e-5 months
due to troubleshooting on RU-143. The cause of the radiation signal increases in RU-143 is under investigation.

A special report is required and made pursuant to Palo Verde Unit 1 Technical Specification Table 2.13-13 ACTION 42-b and Technical Specification 6.9.2.
