At 1600 hours0.0185 days <br />0.444 hours <br />0.00265 weeks <br />6.088e-4 months <br /> on March 18, 1980, during post-modification testing of the containment spray system, the 1CSB relay would not latch. Unit 1 was in the cold shutdown condition at the time. The Train "A" relay, 1CSA, was immediately tested and found to be operable.

! Relay 1CSB is a Westinghouse MG-6 type relay in the Train "B" high-high containment pressure logic system. The

, relay is actuated on a containment pressure of 30 psi or manually by two pushbuttons.

Testing of a MG-6 relay demonstrated that if contain-ment spray was initiated either in automatic or manual the system would have performed its fu'ction. Bench testing of the similar relay verified that the relay contacts are closed long enough to initiate the containment spray system without a latching mechanism; that is, the reaction time of the relay was sufficient to provide cocplete actuation of the containment spray system.

The relay latching mechanism was adjusted and proper operation was verified on March 18, 1980.

This event is reportable in accordance with Technical Spe cification 15. 6. 9. 2. B .1 1
