A bench test is an operating test carried out on a machine, a component, or software before it is released for use, to ensure that it works properly. This is typically done when during work preparation. As new/replacement parts are collected (e.g, from the warehouse) they would be bench tested to make sure they perform as expected prior to installation.
- A test performed after installation is a post maintenance test (PMT).
