We have been informed by Vemont Yankee that work on the torus to colum welding reinforcement has been suspended and will be rescheduled for capletion at a later date. 'Ihis reinforcement is one of the modifications that Vennont Yankee must do to resolve the Mark I containment lcng-term prog"am.
To assist the State in determining the significance of this postpon m ent, I request that you, or such other official as may be appropriate at the Nuclear Pegulatory Ccanission, evaluate this schedule change on a plant specific basis and advise us of your determination of its acceptability. In particular, we request your assurance that the failure to cmplete this work at this time in no way creates a rafety hazard or the possibility of a safety hazard in the event that it becomes necessarf for the emergency core cooling system to operate.
