Subject:

Vermont Yankee Nuclear Power Station License No. DPR-28 (Docket No. 50-271)

Supplemental Response to Generic Letter (GL) 98-01 Supplement 1 Vermont Yankee (VY) submitted Reference (a) in response to Reference (c) to describe the status of VY's I Year 2000 (Y2K) remediation effort. The completion schedule for remediation of those systems that will not be Y2K ready by July 1,1999 ns provided within the body of the letter; the last system to be remediated is scheduled for completion by the end of October 1999. However, because the Voluntary Response statement in Reference (c) indicates that licensees should provide completion schedules "for achieving readiness by the year 2000," VY interpreted the compliance date to be December 31,1999.

Therefore, we submitted a " Summary of Vermont Yankee Commitments" page with Reference (a) that declared our commitment to achieve readiness for all presently unremediated systems by December 31, 1999.

VY fully intends to have all outstanding remediation efforts completed on the schedule identified for each of the three remaining systems. Consequently, we are resubmitting the " Summary of Vermont Yankee Commitments" page showing a committed date of 10/31/99. Please replace the original page submitted with Reference (a) with the attached revised page. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused.
