Dear Mr. Keppler:

Subject:

Interim Report of 10 CFR 50.55(e)

Item on Defective Westinghouse Switches Oa December 7, 1979, Detroit Edison's Mr. H. A. Walker, EF2 Site Project Quality Assurance Engineer, telephoned Mr. F. J. Jablonski of NRC Region III to report on defective Westinghouse switches in distribution cabinets used to distribute power for plant instru-mentation and control at the Fermi 2 Site.

These switches were manufactured by Westinghouse Electric Corporation and furnished to Detroit Edison by the Harlo Corporation.

So far, the problem involves five switches which will not close properly. Four distribution cabinets are affected.

Detroit Edison is conducting a review to determine the extent of this problem, and arrangements are being made to meet with the supplier's representative to correct the situation. A final report will be submitted to you by May 7, 1980.

If you have any questions on this matter, please contact our EF2 Site Project Quality Assurance Engineer.

Sincerely,

[I ~ i/ _
