Containment Purge Valves File: 85-019-026; D.4.33.2

Reference:

(A) Request for Schedular Exemption to 10CFR50, Appendices A and K, ANPP-31193, dated November 21, 1984.

(B) Final Report DER 84-96, ANPP-31385, dated December 7, 1984.

(C) Final Report DER 84-101, ANPP-31490, dated December 14, 1984.

Dear Sir:

Reference (A) and (B) informed you that the PVNGS design for the subject valves is being changed to utilize fail closed pneumatic operators in place of the current motor operators and that this change (DCP-J-CP-023) would be completed prior to initial criticality (Mode 2).

Reference (C) documented the failure of one of the motor operators to function properly. The valve has been repaired in accordance with our commitment to the NRC.

In an effort to provide the NRC with a complete report on the status of the operators, the Final Report for DER 84-10l restated our intention to change the motor operators to pneumatic operators however, we inadver-tently stated this would be accomplished by Mode 4 instead of Mode 2 as committed to in References (A) and (B).
