Dear Mr.Schwencer:

SER Supplement 5, Item 3.11.1(1)(a) requests a list of all nonsafety-related electrical equipment, located in a harsh environment, the failure of which under postulated environmental conditions could prevent satisfactory accomplishment of safety functions by safety-related equipment.

The SSES design assures that no nonsafety-related electrical equipment could fail so as to prevent satisfactory accomplishment of safety functions by safety-related equipment.

This is because any equipment, whose failure could affect safety equipment, is classified as safety related, and is, therefore, considered under the qualification program.This position is based upon the SSES design criteria as described in FSAR Sections 3.12 and 8.1.6, which provide both electrical isolation and physical separation of safety and nonsafety-related equipment.

These design criteria have been incorporated through the existing design control processes'herefore, no special review for environmental qualification is necessary.
