Interim Report of the Potential 10CPR50.55(e) Item on Hydraulic Pipe Snubbers (#79)

==Dear Mr. Keppler:==

On October 15, 1982, Detroit Edison's Mr. D. Ferencz, Acting Supervisor-Construction Quality Assurance, telephoned Mr. J. Konklin's office of NRC Region III to report on a potential problem with hydraulic pipe snubbers at the Fermi 2 site.
The problem appears to be contamination of the hydraulic fluid with metal filings and corrosion of internal parts. The hydraulic snubbers are sup-plied by Power Piping Canpany. Approximately 400 such snubbers exist at the Fermi 2 site. This problem appears to be similar to a previous one at Crystal River 3 Nuclear Plant in Florida.
Currently, all hydraulic snubbers have been sent to Power Piping for re-furbishing.
Another report on this item, either interim or final, is scheduled to be sent on or before March 15, 1983. If you have questions concoming this natter, please contact Mr. G.M. Trahey, Assistant Director-Project Quality Assurance.
Very truly yours, w
