DESCRIPTION OF ACTIONS TAKEN RELATIVE TO ATOMIC SAFETY AND LICENSING BOARD PARTIAL INITIAL DECISION REQUIREMENTS FOR CATAWBA NUCLEAR STATION Per your request I am providing information regarding actions taken j                    by Duise Power Company (DPC) and/or staff relative to the subject require-l                    ments.                                  ,
The Atomic Safety and Licensing Board (ASLB), in a Partial Initial l
Decision (PID) issued on June 22, 1984 required actions to be performed by Duke Power Company and/or staff concerning several areas at Catawba.
These requirement!s and the actions taken are as follows:
: a. Upgrade procedures for control of welding filler metal          .
(PID pg. 87): DPC revised QA Procedure H-3, Identification and Control of Welding Material to require each filler metal.

,                                verified that DPC followed up on the recomendations of their l                                Technical Task Force that affected welds be investigated to l                                assure their size was proper. This included technical evaluation and reinspection. (I consider the DPC actions to beacceptable.]

Follovup recomendations concerning Welding Concern No. E-2 regarding socket weld gaps (PID pg.121): I have verified that DPC followed up on their Technical Task Force recommendation to investigate socket weld gaps at Catawba. This investigation showedthattherewasnotasocketgapproblematCatawba.[I N consider the DPC actions acceptable.]

Inspection and NDE of Welds to clarify that surface inspections are not limited to construction damage.        The procedure now requires any damage or unacceptable conditions observed to be documented. I have verified that this revision has been completed and forwarded to appropriate personnel. fI consider the DPC actions to be satisfactory to address the %SLB concern.))
: e.                Verify remaining concrete honeycombing of significance is adequately repaired (PID pg. 242): Staff (Harris) has verified that significant honeycomb in Unit I has been repaired.                  ,
This was accomplished via followup of an Unresolved Item documented in RII Report No. 50-413/86-49 and 50 414/84-23.
