Please refer to our telecon with you and GEH on 12/09/08 regarding the information requested in my earlier email for containment analysis. As our reviewer Ahsan Sallman of the Containment and Ventilation Branch agreed, we have modified the first 3 questions. We have also added Question 4 . Please see below. If you wish to discuss these questions, please contact me. Otherwise, please let me know when you will provide a formal response.

Monticello - proposed EPU amendment, revised RAI on containment analysis (TAC MD9990)

Ken, Gabe:

Please refer to our telecon with you and GEH on 12/09/08 regarding the information requested in my earlier email for containment analysis. As our reviewer Ahsan Sallman of the Containment and Ventilation Branch agreed, we have modified the first 3 questions. We have also added Question 4 . Please see below. If you wish to discuss these questions, please contact me. Otherwise, please let me know when you will provide a formal response.

(1) Containment analysis input parameters to perform the following:

(a) Design-basis accident (DBA) LOCA short-term analysis (b) DBA LOCA long-term analysis (c) DBA LOCA net positive suction head (NPSH) analysis (d) Small steam line break accident analysis (e) Anticipated transient without scram (ATWS) NPSH analysis (f) Appendix R NPSH analysis (g) Station blackout NPSH analysis (2) Fractional decay heat versus time used for the above, (a) analysis up to 100 seconds, and for (b) through (g) analyses up to 100,000 seconds.

(3) Mass and energy released inside containment for the following:

(a) DBA LOCA short-term analysis (b) DBA LOCA long-term analysis (c) DBA LOCA NPSH analysis (d) Small steam line break analysis - most limiting case.

(4) Core Spray (CS) Pumps, Residual Heat Removal (RHR) system pumps and High Pressure Coolant Injection (HPCI) system pumps inlet centerline elevations, overall pump inlet piping (including components) pressure loss versus flow, and the required pump NPSH at pump inlet based on 1-percent and 3-percent head loss.
