The information is as initially received without verification or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by the Region IV staff on this date.

SHUTDOWN GREATER THAN 48 HOURS l

The plant was at 1% power on April 8, 1986, in the process of returning to power following an unplanned unit trip earlier on April 8. On Wednesday April 9, 1986, at 0300 CST, the Wolf Creek Generating Station was shutdown in accordance with its Technical Specification when a leak of approximately 8 gallons per minute was identified in the packing of the pressurizer bypass spray valve. KG&E has decided to keep the plant shutdown for a 15-day outage in order to perform some required Technical Specification surveillances and maintenance.

Neither the licensee nor the NRC plans to issue a press release.

The state of Kansas will be informed.

Region IV received notification of this occurrence by the resident inspector at approximately 0900 CST on April 9, 1986. Region IV has informed IE.
