MISQUOTE OF NRC CONSULTANT BY NEW'S MEDIA Kansas Gas and Electric Company informed Region IV (Dallas) that a television report on WIBW Topeka, Kansas on December 28, 1978, and UPI news releases on December ~29 quoted an* NRC consultant as saying that problems with the Wolf Creek reactor building base mat concrete (PNO-7.8-l 198) could prevent NRC from issuing an operating license.
The NRC i
consultant, who was assisting in the IE investigation of the concrete problem, has denied making such a statement.
There has been consider-able media interest in the misquotation.
Region IV has received
. inquiries from several newspapers and from the Missouri Public Service g~
Commission.
A meeting among representatives of NRR, IE and the utility t
'is planned for January 4,1979, to discuss the problem of understrength concrete in the reactor building base mat.
