STOP WORK 0F CONCRETE PLACEMENT IN SAFETY RELATED STRUCTURES A Kansas Gas and Electric Company (KG&E) representative announced in a meeting in the RIV offices on December 18, 1978, that they had i
immediately halted any further placement of concrete in safety related structures at the Wolf Creek site.

' The stop work was imposed as a result of concreting activities which led
~
to a through wall void in the Reactor Containment wall under the equipment g3 hatch (See PN0 78-211).
The stop work order will remain in affect until they have completed a review of the quality ' assurance program including review l
I of procedures, implementation of the procedures and corrective action.
The Constructor, Daniel International, will form an ad hoc committee to review, evaluate and attest to the adequacy of corrective action prior to further placement of safety related concrete.
A KG&E Quality Assurance representative will be present at each committee meeting.
The committee Chairman is to report to the President, Daniel Power Group on a daily basis as to the progress being made on the corrective actions. He, in.
turn, will keep KG&E corporate management informed daily of the committee's significant findings.
Licensee corporate management will discuss with Region IV personnel the completion status of the reviews and corrective measures they have committed to, along with any significant findings prior to resuming the l
Placement of concrete in safey related structures.
No press ' release is planned by either the NRC or the utility,.however, l
there is expected to be media interest due to extensive coverage of the i
containment wall void by the media.
