The information is as initially received without verification or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by the Regior IV staff on this date.

SUBJECT:

PERSONNEL ELECTROCUTION At about 2:00 p.m. (CDT), the resident inspectors reported that two contractor electricians at Wolf Creek had received an electrical shock while pulling 480V cables in the overhead on the second level of the auxiliary building. One individual did not respond to CPR attempts onsite and both were transported to the hospital via ambulance. There was no r;diological contamination involved with this event and no effect on plant operation. The licensee has fonred a safety investigation team to review the cause of this event. Subsequent infonnation received by Region IV was that one electrician was dead on arrival at the hospital and the other was injured but not seriously.

Preliminary unconfinred information received was that the electrician may have slipped and grabbed a conduit for support. The conduit came loose and cut into a 480V lighting cable inside the conduit. The conduit became energized and caused the electrocution.

The resident inspectars were onsite and responded to the event. The resident inspectors will continue to monitor licensee actions.

The licensee plans to issue a press release.

Region IV received notification of this occurrence by the resident inspector from Wolf Creek at 2 p.m. Region IV has informed the ED0 office and NRR. A Comissioner assistant briefing has also been conducted.
