The informa tion presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is knewn by lE staff as of this date FACILITY: Carolina Power and Light Company Brunswick Unit Nos. 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-325 and 50-324 30 Miles Southwest of Wilmington, NC .

OFFSI'TE CONCENTRATIONS OF CE51UM-137 EXCEE.D TECIDiICAL SPECITICATION REPORT LEVELS This PN updates PNO-II-80-47. Additional environmental vegetation samples cellected by the licensee from areas which were downwind of the plant when the release occurred revealed no radioactivity above reporting levels. Vegetation from upwind locations and environmental air sa=ples collected around the site during the release period revealed no upward deposition. Additional samples are being analyzed by the licensee and by NRC, Region II.

The contamicated boiler has been removed f rom service and a temporary replacement boiler is being installed. The auxiliary steam system will be flushed and cleaned prior to reuse. Actions taken and planned by the licensee to correct this prob,lem and prevent recurrence of similar problems bas been confirmed in an Immediate Action Letter from Region II to the licensee.

The State of North Carolina and the Regional EPA office has been informed.

Local media interest occurred following the licennee's press release.

Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from the Brunswick Plant Manager at 11:00 a.m. on March 26. This informa tion is current as of 12:00 Noon on March 28.
