UPDATE ON HURRICANE BONNIE -:

At 5:00 a.m., on August 27,1998, the center of Hurricane Bonnie was

  • estimated at latitude 34.7 North and longitude 77.5 West, approximately 83 miles North Northeast of the Brunswick plant. The storm is expected to mnain in the eastern North Carolina area for the next 12 hcurs and is 1 siswly drifting North Northwest at 5 mph. Maximum sustained winds have l '

dropped to 85 mph. The current wind speed at the plant is 20-25 mph. No significant damage has occurred at the Brunswick plant or at the General Electric Fuel Fabrication Facility.

The Region II Incident Response Center continues to be manned, and NRC inWors remain on site at the Brunswick plant. The licensee continues to s,taff the Technical Support Center and the Emergency Operations c Facility.

It is anticipated that the licensee will secure from the Notice of Unusual Event by mid morning.
