SUBJECT:

PINHOLE LEAK IDENTIFIED IN REACTOR C0OLANT PRESSURE BOUNDARY During inservice inspection, the licensee reported finding a pinhole leak in the 6-inch reactor water clean-up system (RWCU) suction piping located inside the drywell between a manual isolation valve and a motor-operated containment isolation valve. The leak is in the heat affected zone of a pipe to elbow weld. At the licensee's request, Southwest Research Institute is evaluating the defective pipe section.

UT examination of the affected pipe section and adjacent welds reveal uniform pipe wall thickness and no additional degradation. Samples are being taken for metallurgical evaluation to detennine cause of degradation. A Region Il metallurgical specialist is at the site.

The reactor was shut down April 23 for refueling and was defueled at the time the leak was discovered.

No media interest has occurred. Neither the licensee nor the flRC plans to issue a news release.
