Observation Croft Associates Limited Safkeg-LS Model No. 3979A Docket No. 71-9337 Certificate of Compliance No. 9337 Revision This observation identifies information that the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff could potentially request later as a request for additional information (RAI) during the detailed technical review. The observation does not require a response for the NRC staff to begin its detailed technical review of the application. However, Croft Associates Limited (the applicant) may respond to the observation before the NRC staff formally makes any RAI.

Materials Evaluation Obs-Ma-1:

In the new SAR drawing, 1C-9012, Containment Vessel Design No. 3980 (ASSY B), explain the removal of a weld in the containment boundary in Detail A compared to 1C-6044, Containment Vessel Design No. 3980 (ASSY A).

This information is requested by the staff to demonstrate compliance with 10 CFR 71.33(a).

Obs-Ma-2:

In SAR Section 4.1, Description of the Containment System, the applicant describes a shield plug weld that is not necessary for the integrity of the containment boundary. However, in SAR Figure 4-1, Package Containment Boundary, the boundary appears to include the shield plug weld as drawn. The staff request clarification on this inconsistency.
