50-285/0L-85-SALP MEMORANDUM FOR:
L. Yandell, Fort Calhoun Station Resident Inspector FROM:
R. Cooley, Chief, Operator Licensing Section
SUBJECT:
FORT CALHOUN STATION SALP INPUT ON OPERATOR LICENSING Four Operator Licensing Examinations were administered during the SALP reporting period of September 1, 1983 to February 28, 1985.
Five Reactor Operators were given initial and retake replacement examinations with three licenses being issued. Six Senior Reactor Operators were given initial and retake examinitions with three licenses being issued.
Requalification examinations were administered to two Reactor Operators and five Senior Reactor Operators. Two Reactor Operators and two Senior j
Reactor Operators passeu the requalification examimations.
Fort Calhoun Station performance in all classes of examination has been marginal.
However, after meeting with Region IV Staff, there has been a noticeable improvement to a comitment to improved training. The ADTECH programatic review, procurement of ditional training facilities, and the appointment of a new training L Mevisor reporting directly to the Plant Manager are all evidence of licensee intent to meet their commitment.
For this SALP evaluation period, a rating of "Marginal but Improving" should be assigned to Fort Calhoun Station training performance.
If you need additional information concerning operator licensing activities at Fort Calhoun Station, contact S. McCrory (817-860-8265 or FTS 728-8265).
