Dear Mr. fichmidt:

A non-compliance:with respect to temperature increase 1

across the condensers was experienced for Outfall 001 on March 7, 1988.

The 12 17 maximum temperature increase was j.

exceeded for about one hour, reaching-a high of 12.3 F.

Power was reduced = to 70% to' reduce the heat load.

The hourly temperature readings were as, follows:

10:00 A.M.

0 13'7 F, 11:00 A.N. - 12.3 F, and 12. Noon - 10.1*F.

The cause of the i problem was a ' mechanical failure g

causing. tho shut down of - a circulating water pump due to j

water in its main bearing.

This is regarded as uncontrollable and no 'other corrective action is planned.-

This non-compliance was reported via telephone to your office on March 7,

1988.
