BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 2 - LOSS OF SUCTION TO CORE SPRAY PUMPS DURING PREOPERATIONAL TESTING On May 31, 1974, initial report was made on the subject deficiency ~'

to AEC Inspector W. S. Little at the site. In compliance with paragraph 50.55(e) of 10 CFR 50, this is submitted as an interim report in the occurrence.

m During a rerun of portions of preoperational test GE-12 on the core k spray system, core spray pumps A and C lost suction in the higher 'f4 flow ranges (3125-6250 gpm) while taking suction from the torus.

This occurrence required manual shutdown of the pumps. Valve 6'h.

-M Can HCV-75-1, which is in the suction line to both of the pumps, appeared M, to be only partially open even though the indicator showed it to be 3 fully open.
