SUMMARY

MAY 1999 BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 1 Unit 1 remains shutdown on administrative hold to resolve various TVA and NRC concerns.

Unit 1 has been on administrative hold since June 1, 1985.

As a result, TVA considers that accrual of reporting hours is suspended since the unit has a maximum dependable capacity of zero MWe.

Accordingly, TVA does not consider reporting cumulative hours for the period beginning June 1, 1985, when calculating the operating status variables.

BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 2 For the month of May, Unit 2 generated 524,740 megawatt hours 1

gross electrical power and operated at a net capacity factor of 61.3 percent maximum dependable capacity (MDC).

The unit restarted from the Cycle 10 refueling outage on May 6,

1999, and closed breaker on May 8, 1999.

Following initial breaker closure, the unit underwent a planned manual scram at 13:24

)

hours on May 8, 1999, to correct excassive turbine vibration.

The unit restarted and closed breaker at 15:21 hours on May 9, 1999.

The unit automatically scrammed on May 15, 1993, at 14:56 hours due to a turbine trip that resulted from the failure of the mechanical trip cylinder to latch when hydraulically reset.

The unit restarted and closed breaker at 22:39 hours on May 16, 1999.

As of May 31, 1999, Unit 2 has operated continuously for 15 days.

BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT UNIT 3 For the month of May, Unit 3 generated 855,420 megawatt hours gross electrical power with a net capacity factor of 100.6 percent MDC.

As of May 31, 1999, Unit 3 has operated continuously for 228 days.
