OYSTER CREEK NUCIEAR GENERATING STATION Forked River, New Jersey 08731 Licunsee Event Report Reportable Occurrence No. 50-219/81-42/0lP Report Date August 28, 1981 Occurrence Date August 28, 1981 Identification of Occurrence The Stack Gas was not continuously monitored as required by Technical Specifica-tion 3.6.A.3 due to a trip of the 'B' Stack Gas Sanple Punp.

This event is considered ';o be a reportable occue., as defined in the Technical Specifications, paragraph 6.9.2.A(2) .

Conditions Prior to Occurrence The plant was in refuel mode with reactor tauperature below 212 F and vmted.

Description of Occurrence On Friday, Augast 28, 1981, at approximately 0745 hours0.00862 days
0.207 hours
0.00123 weeks
2.834725e-4 months
a chemical operator observed the 'B' Stack gas pmp, the selected pmp, not running. An operator was dispatched to investigate the problen and placed the 'A' Stack Gas Pmp in service. This event took place without a low flow alarm, therefore, the length of dme out of service is unknown.

Apparent Cause of Occurrence i The 'B' Stack Gas Sanple Pmp tripped on thennal overload most probably die to failure of bearings and/or micarta vanes in the punp.

Analysis of Occurrence i A review of Stack Gas Radiation Monicur ..noscer showed the levels in 'A'

! Channel at 100 cps and 'B' Channel at 70 cps before and after the event. The

! reactor was shutdown with no work being performed on the reactor, therefore, the i safety significance is considered mininal.

Corrective Action The operator placed the 'A' Stack Gas Sm ple Pmp in inservice with normal flow. l i
