The NRC issued to Carolina Power and Light Company a Notice of Violation concerning locked high radiation area boundary violations at the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant (BSEP) in NRC Inspection Report 50-325/90-06 and 50-324/90-06. In the Company's April 16, 1990 response, CP&L committed to provide a supplemental response by June 29, 1990 detailing additional corrective actions considered necessary following a Human Performance Evaluation (HPE) assessment for the involved events.

Based on the HPE assessment and input from the CP&L Nuclear Engineering Department (NED), three options are being considered to eliminate design problems identified with various locked high radiation barriers. BSEP is evaluating the recommended options, and by August 17, 1990 will provide a response to the NRC detailing the results of the evaluation, along with a proposed schedule-for implementation of the recommended changes.

Very truly yours, t

&A.
