Document Control Desk IM N970822 Attachment A The following items represent the commitments that the Public Service Electric and Gas Company is making to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission relative to LER 354/97-032-00:

RCIC Governor Valve Issue ,

i. 110x Creek Maintenance Procedure llc.MD-CM.FC-0001(Q)," Reactor Core Iso ation Cooling (RCIC) Steam Turbine Inspection and P.M.", will be revised to include proper governor valve linkage adjustment directions. This will be completed by April 30,1998.
2. Lessors Learned from this event will be rolled out to Engineering Personnel conducting Equivalent Replacement Evaluations by April 30,1998.
3. Purchase specifications / drawing for the RCIC governor valve dem will be revised to accommodate increased thermal expansion ofInconel 718 versus 410 Stainless Steel by April 30,1998.
4. Maintenance Procedure llc.MD-CM.FC-0002(Q) will be revised to require that the valve be verified to fully close without coil binding the spring. This will be completed by April 30,1998.
5. Lessons learned from this event with respect to improper positioning of the valve stem guide during reassembly of the governor valve will be rolled out to the Salem and 11 ope Creek Maintenance Departmen;s. This will be completed by April 30,1998, llPCI Turbine Trin and Vibration Issue
6. Procedures will be revised and a recurring task developed to require that spring tension be measured every 18 months. This will be completed by May 31,1998.
7. A design change will be evaluated to re-route the seal cavity drain line to allow the line to properly drain the cavity. This evaluation will be completed by June 9, 1998.
8. Procedures covering reassembly of the turbine seal housing will be revised to require inspection for corrosion. This will be completed by May 31,1998.
