NRC INSPECTION REPORT 70-1257/98-02

Dear Mr. Femreite:

On April 13-17 and May 4-8,1998, the NRC conducted a:1 inspection at your Siemens Power Corporation facility. The enclosed report presents the results of this inspection.

The inspection included a review of selected activities at your facility in Richland, Washington.

The inspector noted that your staff had implemented effective programs in radioactive effluents and environrnental protection. The inspection also included a review of circumstances involved You promptly with a fire that occurred in one of your waste handing facilities on April 15,1998.

In a followup telephone discussion on May 14,1998, your staff committed to inform the NRC Region IV Office when radiological assessments related to the fire and chemical analyses of fire debris were completed, when the fire inspector's report has been received, and when the critique of the emergency actions has been completed. We intend to continue our review of the fire event when this information is available.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its er losure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
