The Honorable Bud Shuster United States House of Representatives Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Congressman Shuster:

Thank you for your inquiry of August 14, 1986 addressed to the NRC Office of Con-gressional Affairs regarding attempts by one of your constituents to obtain in-formation from the NRC. The information provided to you by your constituent, Mr. Jim Tydeman, is correct. He requested information regarding a meeting which was held in the NRC Region I Office in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania on February 18, 1986. This meeting, between the NRC and General Public Utilities (GPU), was to discuss apparent discrepancies in worker dosimetry records at the Saxton Nuclear Experimental Facility which occurred in the 1969-1970 time frame.

The NRC Region I office has recently responded to Mr. Tydeman's request. Attached to our letter to him was a copy of the NRC meeting report as well as GPU's summary of their investigation of this matter. A copy of our letter to Mr. Tydeman, with enclosures, is enclosed.

Mr. Tydeman had also requested a transcript of the February 18 meeting as well as the names of the workers involved in the investigation. These requests were dis-cussed during a telephone conversation with Mr. Tydeman on August 25th. A member of the Region I staff explained to him that the NRC does not take formal transcrip-tions of its routine meetings with licensees, but rather summarizes meeting dis-cussions and issues them as reports. We also explained to Mr. Tydeman that privacy act considerations prevent us from releasing to him the names of the individuals involved in the investigations. These explanations, along with our promise to promptly forward the requested information, apparently satisfied Mr. Tydeman's concerns.

If I or my staff can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to con-tact me.

Sincerely, tapedj T. A, Mahan ictor Stello, Jr.
