Dear Congressman Shuster:
This is in response to your letter of April 13, 1989,- in which you requested that Mr. Jim Tydeman's concerns be addressed.
The NRP has been keeping Mr. Tydeman informed of activities conducted at the Saxton Facility for some time.
In response to requests for information from Mr. Tydeman several years ago, he was placed on the Saxton Service List as a courtesy. This is a rare practice because information is available in the Local Public Document Room. By being on this list, he receives meeting notices, published meeting minutes, inspection reports, and all other NRC pub-lic documents associated with Saxton. Additionally, a number of telephone con-versations have also been held by Region I with Mr. Tydeman to answer questions.
Saxton is a decommissioned, defueled and, for the most part, a dismantled facility, and as such only limited NRC activity is taking place. However, cer-tain NRC inspections and meetings are being conducted. The meeting notice Mr. Tydeman indicated he received on'the day of the meeting was mailed to him as well as the remsinder of the Saxton Service List, 11 days prior to the meet-ing. The items discussed at the meeting in question were explained to a member of his organization (a Mr. Fuller) in a lengthy telephone conversation af ter learning that the group had not received their meeting notice until the day of
'the meeting.
In response to your request, on April 28, 1989, Mr. Jim Tydeman was contacted by telephone by Mr. Curtis Cowgill of NRC's Region I office. Mr. Cowgill is arranging a meeting with Mr. Tydeman and his organization to discuss their con-cerns, including meeting notices. This meeting is tentatively scheduled for May 11', 1989. We feel, at present, Mr. Tydeman is satisfied with the actions taken by the NRC.
As you requested, we are returning Mr. Tydeman's letter with our reply.
