REPORT MONTH September, 1978 l

SUte!ARY OF OPERATING EXPERIENCES At the beginning of this month the plant was shutdown due to a failure i of one of the plant's two half-capacity main transformers. While the remaining transformer was being uprated to permit s70% operation the primary plant was cooled down to replace the seal cartridge in #2 RCP.

One of the four seals in this cartridge had failed shortly after startup following the refueling outage last month. Leakage problems on the CEDM vents caused a delay of 3-4 days for plant startup.

The plant was placed on-line at 2320 on 9-10-78 but had to be taken  !

off-line at 0456 on 9-11-78 when the inlet isolation valve to #2 feedwater regulating valve would not open and the valve stem became separated from the valve's gates. Repairs were completed and the plant phased back on-line at 0802 on 9-12-78.

Plant load was stabilized at 48% by 0300 on 9-13-78 and physics testing was performedt Following the testing, load was increased to N69% (630 MWe) and maintained there for the rest of the month.
