_SUBJECit FAILURE OF ANNUNCIATOR SYSTEM REl.AYgi Carolina Power and Light (CPAL) declared an alert--in accordance with the plant .

emerg:ncy plan.-at 6:37 4.ni. (CDT) today.15 minutes after all annunciators alamed * <t I could not be reset. The reactor was at 92 percent power and plant conditions were-  !

verified as being stable.

i The lic';nsee cMtinued the plant in operatlon, assigned additional people to increase surveillance in the control room und plant secured access to the turbine and reactor i buildings, and stopped all testing or mainfenance activities which could affect plant  !

s The plant computer was unaffected, j weuaws. i atoms were manually reset in groups, and their capability was verified, although l tha dio fur. tion was not freediately restored. It was determined that the initial annunciator failure was caused by a failed relay, which is now being repieced. The j alert status was ended at 7:15 a.m.
