CHEROKEE NUCLEAR STAfION vocket Nos. 50-491, 50-492 & 50-493 PERKINS NUCLEAR STATION Docket Hos. 50-488, 50-489 & 50-490 Duke Power's Response to USNRC IE Bulletin 79-15 IE Bulletin 79-15 requested six items of information from all holders of Construction Permits. Duke's responses are as follow:

(1) The number of deep draft pumps utilized in safety related applications in each facility.

There are eight of these at each station, all of which are vertical turbine pumps similar in configuration to those shown in Figure 1 of the referenced Bulletin.

(2) Manufacturer, model, capacity and plant application.

At each facility, six of the eight pumps.(two per unit) are utilized as Nuclear Service Water Pumps. These pumps will be manufactured by Ingersoll Rand as model number 51 APKN-1. Each will have a capacity of 20,500 GPM at 190' TDH.

The remaining two pumps at each station will be used as Nuclear Service Water Cooling Tower Make-up Pumps. These pumps will be manufactured by Bingham-Willamette as model number 12 x 188-VCB.

The pumps will have a capacity of 2400 GPM at 138' TDH each.

(3) Overall dimensions. '

The overall dimensions of the Nuclear Service Water Pump are 6' x 56', The pump is 6' x 49' and the motor is 6' x 7'.

The overall dimensions of the Nuclear Service Water Cooling Tower Make-up Pumps are 2' x 62'. The pump is 2' x 54' and the motor is 2' x 8'.

Operational history, problems, and repairs.

Cherokee Nuclear Station is in the early stages of contruction and Perkins Nuclear Station has yet to receive a Construction Permit. Therefore these pumps are yet to be manufactured, and the requested information is not available.
