-OPERATIONAL

SUMMARY

OCTOBER.1989 UNIT 1 Unit 1 continued to operate efficiently during October. It generated-872,460 MHh (gross) of electrical, power with a capacity factor of 98.99

-percent. The ice surveillance on Unit 1 was successfully conducted without any reduction-in power. ' Unit 1 operated'at approximately 100 percent power throughout_the month._

UNIT 2 Unit 2 operated efficiently _during October. It generated 716,580 MWh (gross)

~

of electrical-power with a capacity factor of 81.31' percent. -Unit 2 reduced-power to 50 percent on October 4,-1989, for maintenance on main feedwater pump 2A and 2B. ' Reactor power was returned to 100 percent on October 6, 1989.= On October 15, 1989, reactor power was reduced to 75 percent for maintenance on condensate booster pumps 2A and 28.

When the unit reached 75 percent reactor power on October 15, 1989, the power: level was held at 75 percent to extend the. life of the core. On

' October 19,:1989, the unit was again brought to 100 percent power to meet I loadsdemands.

On October 24, 1989, power was reduced again_to allow for turbine maintenance j'

and testing. The reactor remained critical and at approximately 30 percent

-power:wh1le the_ turbine was'taken offline.. Unit-2 was online again wtthin 24_-_

hours and is currently operating at 75 percent power. The power level is being maintained at 75 percent to extend the life of the core.
