SUMMARY

l OCTOBER 1998 I.

SEQUOYAH OPERATIONAL

SUMMARY

UNIT 1 Unit 1 generated 612,459 megawatthours (MWh) (gross) electrical power during October with a capacity factor of 70.81 percent.

The Unit 1 Cycle 9 refueling outage continued at the beginning of October Unit 1 was taken critical on October 7, 1998, at 0640 Eastern daylight time (EDT) and was returned to service on October 8 at 0543 EDT.

Unit 1 was removed from the grid on October 8 at 1822 EDT for performance of turbine testing and tied online at 2232 EDT that same day.

Unit 1 reached 100 l

percent power on October 12 and was operating at 100 percent power at the end of October.

UNIT 2 l

Unic 2 generated 829,874 MWh (gross) electrical power during October with a capacity factor of 96.36 percent.

On October 15, 1998, at 0501 EDT, a turbine trip occurred l

followed by a reactor trip.

The event resulted from a generator lockout caused by a failure of a sudden pressure relay on the "B" phase main transformer.

Unit 2 was returned to service on October 16 at 0639 EDT and reached 100 percent power at 1135 EDT on October 17.

Unit 2 was operating at 100 percent at the end of October.

3 50-328/1998002 FK RLY On October 15 at 0501 EDT, a turbine trip i

occurred followed by a reactor trip. The event resulted from a generator lockout caused by a failure of a sudden pressure relay on the "B" phase main transfonner.

The sudden pressure relay was replaced and the relay trip function was disabled from the main transformers and the unit station service transformers. A modification is being evaluated to physically isolate the relays from the vibration of the transformers. Unit 2 was returned to service October 16 at 0639 I
