NOTIFICATION OF NONCOMPLIANCE WITH EFFLUENT LIMITATIONS - NPDES PERMIT NO. AL0022080 - BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT Descri tion of the dischar e--Discharge No. 006 - Sewage treatment plant effluent. A grab sample collected on December 21, 1983, and reported from the laboratory on December 27, 1983, exceeded the maximum permit limitations as shown below.

Parameter Concentration Maximum Limitation BOD5 530 mg/L . 45 mg/L TSS 1500 mg/L 45 mg/L Cause and eriod of the noncom liance--The daily total flow averaged 8,250 gpd for the four days preceding sample collection. On the day of sample collection, the daily total flow was 68,000 gpd. These high flows overloaded the treatment capacity of the system and contributed to the noncompliances.

Ste s taken to reduce eliminate, and revent recurrence of the noncom 1 in

~dischar d--TVA has budgeted funds, to replace the sewage treatment pIant in FY 1984. Design plans are being prepared for State approval.
