Dear Mr. Marlar:
NOTIFICATION OF NONCOMPLIANCE WITH EFFLUENT LIMITATIONS - NPDES PERMIT NO. AL0022080 - BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT Description of the discharge--Discharge No. 006 - Sewage treatment plant effluent. A grab sample collected on October _12 and reported from the laboratory on October 1,8 exceeded the maximum pennit limitations as follows.

TSS 670 mg/L 45 mg/L Fecal Colifonn >2000 N/100 ml 400 N/100 ml Cause and period of the noncompliance--The daily total flow was 68,800 GPD for the day preceding sample collection and was 65,200 GPD on the day of sample collection. These high flows washed solids over the clarifier weir into the chlorine contact tank.
Steps taken to reduce, eliminate, and prevent recurrence of the noncomplying discharge--TVA has budget.ed funds to replace the sewage treatment in FY 1984.
Design plans and State approval documents are being prepared.
