Dear Mr. Marlar:
NOTIFICATION OF NONCOMPLIANCE WITH EFFLUENT LIMITATIONS - NPDES PERMIT NO. AL0022080 - BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT Description of the discharge--Discharge No. 006 - Sesage treatment plant effluent. A sample collected and analyzed on October 13 contained 700 ml/L of effluent settleable solids, exceeding the maximum daily and 7-day average permit limitations of 1.0 ml/L.
Cause and period of the noncompliance--This noncompliance was a continuation of the noncompliances reported for October 12. The daily total flos October 10-13 averaged 64,450 gpd. These high flows washed out solids over the clarifier weir into the chlorine contact tank and resulted in the noncompliances.
Steps taken to reduce, eliminate, and prevent recurrence of the noncomplying discharge--A sewage lagoon has been designed to-replace the sewage treatment plant.
The engineering report was submitted to the Alabama Department of Environmental Management for approval on November 30.
