EFFLUENT ANDWASTE DISPOSAL ANNUALREPORT

SUMMARY

OF ABNORMAL/UNPLANNEDRELEASES 1995 The radioactive effluents for 1995 were normal for a three unit boiling water reactor plant withtwo units operating and one unit in extended outage.

The release ofradioactive material to the environment &om Browns Ferry has been a small &action of the 10 CFR 20 Appendix B and 10 CFR 50 Appendix I limits. There were no limits exceeded as specified in 10 CFR 20 Appendix B and 10 CFR 50 Appendix I.

A compensatory sample for the inoperable raw cooling water system radiation monitor (3-RM-90-132) was missed on January 7, 1995. The sampling requirements are given in Offsite Dose Calculation Manual (ODCM) Table 1.1-1 Action D. The sample was due on January 7, 1995, at 0405.

Immediately upon discovering the missed sample, a sample was taken on January 7, 1995, at 0637.

No activity was found in the samples before or aAer the missed sample (BFPER950022).

On September 19, 1995 at approximately 0744, a continuous air monitor (2-RM-90-249) was inadvertently placed in standby.

The monitor was discovered in standby on September 22, 1995, and placed in service at 1023. While the monitor was in standby all data was still available although no alarms were capable ofbeing processed.

Data was obtained shiNy and recorded while the monitor was in standby. Allrecorded data was below the setpoints while the monitor was in standby.

The reason for the monitor being placed in standby could not be determined. A change willbe made to a plant procedure to check the status ofthe continuous air monitors each shift (BFPER951320).

A compensatory sample for the inoperable raw cooling water system radiation monitor (3-RM-90-132) was collected 14 minutes late on October 6, 1995. The Ofrsite Dose Calculation Manual (ODCM)

Table 1.1-1 Action D states that the sample must be obtained and analyzed within 8 hours9.259259e-5 days
0.00222 hours
1.322751e-5 weeks
3.044e-6 months
. No activity was found in the late sample (BFPER951443).
