Dear Mr. Horn:

Enclosed is a corrected notice of noncompliance (NON) for Drowns Ferry Nuclear Plant (NPDES Permit No. AL0022080; DSN ill, sewage treatment plant effluent) for August 1984. This replaces the NON sent to you on September 28. The reason for the change is the description of the discharge reported in the September 28 NON was incorrect.

If you have questions, please call Steve Wells at 386-2971 in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

Sincerely, Martin E. Rivers, Director Environmental Quality Enclosure

NOTIFICATION OF NONCOMPLIANCE WITH EFFLUENT LIMITATIONS NPDES PERMIT NO. AL0022080 - BROWNS FERRY NUCLEAR PLANT Please Sewage refer to the September 28 notice of noncompliance for DSN lll-treatment plant effluent. The noncompliance concerned grab samples collected in August that had parameters to exceed the 7-day average permit limitation.

The description of the discharge from the sewage treatment plant effluent should have been reported as follows.

Date 8/14 TSS 75 mg/L 45 mg/L 8/23 TSS 140 mg/L 45 mg/L 8/30 TSS 47 mg/L 45 mg/L As reported in our September 28 letter, the sewage treatment plant is over-loaded. The chlorine contact tank is pumped out periodically to help reduce permit noncompliances that result from overloaded conditions. A sewage treatment lagoon to replace the present facility is under construction.

The sewage treatment plant will be operated as close as possible to permit limits until the lagoon is operational.

The August DMR submitted September 28 reflects this change'of notification.
