Unit 2 at PP-8 BKR 11 8.0 REPLACING CARBON DIOXIDE WITH AIR 8.1 Precautions and Limitations 8.1.1 Do not allow generator manhole covers to be removed until generator pressure has decreased to atmospheric.

8.1.2 Avoid prolonged breathing of carbon dioxide during removal of manhole covers.

8.1.3 If ventilating the generator is required following the instrument air purge, it will be done by Maintenance per a Maintenance procedure.

8.2 Initial Conditions 8.2.1 Seal oil system may be secured providing shaft is not turning.

8.2.2 Purity meter indicates 95% carbon dioxide minimum.

8.2.3 Turbine building ventilation in operation.

8.3 Procedure 8.3.1 Connect instrument air through a regulator to the jumper connection at valve HG-8 to IA-749 (unit 1) or IA-1009 (unit 2), and adjust the regulator to 55 psig.

8.3.2 Check shut valves HG-7 and HG-5. Align purity blower sampling and return to the bottom of the generator by shutting HG-2 and HG-4 and opening HG-1 and HG-3.

8.3.3 Check open the generator to atmosphere valves, HG-6 and HG-44.

8.3.4 Open HG-8 and HG-45 to supply dry air to the top of the generator, forcing the CO to the atmosphere through HG-6.

The hydrogen dryer will not receive a directpurge with instrument air due to its small volume of CO2.

After the CO has been purged from the generator, set regulator at 3 to 5 psig 8.3.5 2

8.3.6 Open all water detector drain valves HG-15, HG-18, and HG-23.

9.0 REPLACING AIR WITH CARBON DIOXIDE 9.1 Precautions and Limitations 9.1.1 Do not allow generator pressure to exceed 3 psig during time carbon dioxide is being admitted.

9.1.2 Do not exceed 100 psig on carbon dioxide manifold.

9.1.3 Observe frost line on carbon dioxide supply header to see that it disappears at least 10 feet from the point at which supply line enters the generator.

9.1.4 Hydrogen dryer valve HG-26 is throttled and should not be adjusted in this l

procedure.

9.3.2 Replace manhole covers and shut all water detector drain valves HG-15, HG-18 and HG-23.

9.3.3 Align purity meter sampling to the top manifold by opening HG-2 and HG-4 and shutting HG-1 and HG-3.

9.3.4 Align the generator top atmospheric vent header by opening HG-7 and shutting HG-6 and HG-8.

9.3.5 Align the carbon dioxide supply header by opening HG-5.

9.3.6 Verify four single carbon dioxide bottles are connected at the four flexible hose connections with the bottle isolation valve shut.

9.3.7 Connect the CO 12 pack to CO manifold vent valve HG-61 using the 2

2 armorflex hose provided. Ensure a wall gasket is installed on the CO 12 pack 2

end of the flex hose prior to connecting the hose fitting. Check shut HG-60 and HG-61.

9.3.8 Check shut the 12 pack master isolation and open the 12 individual bottles stops on the 12 pack.

aCAUTIONa DO NOT EXCEED 100 PSIG ON THE CO MANIFOLD.

PMT 9.3.9 Crack open the 12 pack master isolation valve to check for leaks at the 12 '

pack and at the CO manifold. Repair leaks as necessary.

2 9.3.10 Following satisfactory leak test, fully open the 12 pack master isolation and HG-60. HG-61 will be used to control CO flow to the generator.

2 9.3.11 Check open valves HG-48, hydrogen dryer inlet root isolation, and HG-49 hydrogen dryer outlet root isolation.

NOTE:

Power is secured due to noflowfor the tower blowers and also to ensure a tower shift does not takeplace during the variousphases of the dryerpurge.

The dryerpurge willbeperformedin three steps: Moisture Cooler, Reactivation Tower, and Absorption Tower.

9.3.12 Secure the hydrogen dryer by shutting valves HG-9 and HG-10 and open the main power breaker:

recommence the purge.

9.3.24 When the purity meter indicates 95% CO, shut HG-61 and the 12 pack master 2

isolation. Then shut HG-60 and HG-5.

9.3.25 Disconnect the armorflex hose from the 12 pack. Label the 12 pack as being empty and inform Ready Stores regarding need for a fresh 12 pack.

9.3.26 Restore the hydrogen dryer to service by opening valves HG-9 and HG-10 and closing the main power breaker:

10.1.4 To prevent dangerous levels of hydrogen from accumulating within the exciter housing, the exciter housing doors should be maintained open whenever hydrogen is in the generator and the turbine is on the turning gear.

10.3.10 When desired purity level has been reached, shut vent line valve HG-6. Shut vent valve HG-22A.
