l.0 PURPOSE To provide detailed instructions for charging the boric acid feed filters (F8).

2.0 REFERENCES

IR 96-006, NRC Inspection Report; NRC Commitment for Operations procedures PMT/QC reviews.

3.0 PIlECAUTIONS AND LIMITATIONS 3.1 A radiation work permit and continuous Health Physics coverage is required while  ;

changing filters as the filters are highly radioactive.

' I b~ 3.2 Ensure the spent filter tube's inlet and end caps are removed from the filter vessel before installing new filter tube.

INITIALS 40 INITI AL CONDITIONS in addition to the conditions of Section 3 0 of 01-22, ensure the following-4.1 The following tools are available:  ;

I - 15/16" wrench 1 - 1 1/16" wrench 4.2 A step-off pad at the filter cubicle entrance has been established.

5.0 PROCEDURE 51 Open vessel drain and vent. Allow vessel to drain for 10 minutes 5.2 Loosen the four (4) head bolts and remove the vessel head.

( 5.3 Manually lift out the old element and place in a plastic bag.

INITIALS 5.4 Dispose of filter element per the radwaste supervisor.

5.5 Inspect the filter vessel for debris and damage to the seal surfaces, 5.6 Apply a light coat oflubricant (Dow Corning No. 4 I or equal) to the new O-ring and install filter in the vessel.

5.7 Clean and lubricate the closure bolts.

l NOTE: QC Inspector must witness performance ofStep 5.8.

5.8 Tighten the flange closure bolts in a diagonal sequence, torquing each bolt to a finalload of 75 fVibs.

5.9 Flange closure bolts are properly torqued.

QC l 5.10 Close drain valve and clear danger tags if necessary. l

5. I 1 Fill and vent vessel l PNIT 5.12 Apply system pressure to vessel and check for leaks 5.13 Clean up area and all tools. _

5.14 llave HP perform a final contaminations survey.

5.15 Record test equipment ID's on the Champs Task Sheet.
