1.0 PURPOSE The purpose of this procedure is to provide instructions for: l 1.1 Changing the Bowser bags and the polishing filter F-4.

1.2 Changing the oillift system filters.

2.0 REFERENCFJ IR 96-006, NRC Inspection Report; NRC Commitment for Operations procedures PMT/QC reviews.

3.0 PRECAUTIONS AND LIMITATIONS l

, 3.1 No special lineup is required for changing Bowser bags, as the job may be done with the l Bowser on-line. However, it should be noted as bag frame is removed, a spring loaded l

valve shuts off the flow through the hole where the nozzle was removed. More than 5 or.  :

6 bag frames should not be removed at once if the level is already high. I 1

3.2 To dispose of Bowser bags they should be wrung out, placed in plastic bags with a small amount of oil-dry and discarded as normal trash.

l j

3.3 To dispose of filters they should be drained of dripping oil, placed in plastic bags with a small amount of oil-dry and discarded as normal trash.

i 4.0 INITIAL CONDITIONS 1

, NUCLEAR POWER BUSINESS UNIT 0148B OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS MINOR Revision 4 I LUBE OIL FILTER CHANGEOUTS January 25.1997 5.0 PROCEDURE 5.1 Changing Bowser Bags NOTE: To dispose of used Bowser bags reference step 3.2.

5.1.1 Remove bag frame, inverting the frame to pour filtered oil from bag. This prevents backwashing dirt from bags.

5.1.2 Turn frame over to upright position and loosen the two-thumb nuts simultaneously to avoid bending cover assembly.

NOTE: Cover assemblies should be kept with the basket it camefrom as some will not interchange.

J 5.1.3 Remove cover assembly and inspect 0-ring seal on nozzle. Replace if required.

5.1.4 Remove bag from frame and dispose ofit.

5.1.5 Install new bag over frame tucking in just enough to assure a seal and hold the 4

bag in place.

  • CAUTION
  • DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THUMB NUTS AS COVER ASSEMBLY CAN EASILY BE BENT.

5.1.6 Replace cover assembly and tighten thumb nuts.

5.1.7 Reinstall the frame and new bag assembly in any vacant location.

5.1.8 Repeat steps 5.1.1 through 5.1.7 until all bags have been replaced.

5.2 - Changina Polishing Filter Elements NOTE: To dispose ofusedfilters reference step 3.3.

5.2.1 Obtain 30 new elements from Stores (No.2 Warehouse). Lot No. 911-8217.

NOTE: Thefollowing lineup assumesyou are on normalpunfication.

5.2.2 Complete the following valve lineup and procedural steps:

LO-17, F-4 bypass. . . O' LO-16, F-4 inlet . . . S LO-18, F-4 outlet. . . .. . S LO-38, F-4 vent . . . . . . O

. LO-38A, F-4 vent... .. .. O LO-21, bag compartment drain. . . . S LO-22, moisture separator drain... . . . . S LO-24, overflow drain. . . . S LO-27B, purifier inlet. . . . S i LO-28, P-57 suction from drain header.. . . ..O

, LO-29, P-57 suction from T-36. . O LO-26, T-36 drain. . . . . . . S

  • Open LO-17 before shutting LO-16 and LO-18 5.2.3 Slowly open LO-25 (F-4 drain) and drain at least 10 gallons before proceeding with filter cover removal. This takes from 3 to 5 minutes.

5.2.4 Loosen nuts on cover studs and tip them down to allow cover removal.

5.2.5 Slowly remove cover. If oil is still above the sealing surface, close cover and allow to drain for a few more minutes.

i 5.2.6 Loosen acorn nut, remove brass washer and top element end cover for each of the 30 elements. Note any elements that were not tight. ,

l 5.2.7 Remove the dirty filters, minimize disturbing dirt on the outside of the filter.

Note the flow path is outside to in.

5.2.8 If any of the through rods have been unscrewed while disassembling filter, it is necessary to remove nut, washer and end cap. Reinstall rod back in lower nozzle prior to attempting element replacement. Rod should be tightened firmly.

5.2.9 Place new elements on through rods giving them a spinning motion. It can be felt when the elements are properly seated on the lower nozzles.

5.2.10 Replace end covers, washers and acorn nuts.

5.2.11 The nuts should be drawn down tightly to shoulder stop to indent the seals into l the ends of the canridges. The through bolts have shoulders on each end to stop nut travel at right point.

  • CAUTIONa DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN. GASKET IS OF A RESILIENT MATERIAL AND CAN BE EASILY CUT IN TWO.

5.2.12 Replace cover in same orientation as when it was removed so vent salve will be accessible.

5.2.13 Reinsen retainer studs in cover and tighten.

5.2.14 Check the drain valve LO-25 shut. Crack open the inlet LO-16 when transfer pump P-57 is operating. Fill and vent filter.

5.2.15 When the filter is full, shut vent valve LO-38. Open outlet valve LO-18 and open inlet valve LO-16 fully.

5.2.16 Shut bypass LO-17.

NOTE: A differentialpressure that is too low can be indica:ive offilter bypassing or failure 5.2.17 Check cover for leaks. Check operating differential pressure. (Normally'about 1.0 to 2.0 psid with clean filters.)

1 5.2.18 Complete the following valve lineup to return system to normal: )

5.3.3 Place the respective oil lift pump switch in pullout.

5.3.4 Remove the grating from above the pump.

5.3.5 Remove the locking pin, then shut the oil supply valve.

5.3.6 Observe the suction pressure gauge. Occasionally, the pressure will not bleed off after shutting the supply valve. This is not a problem. Using the 9/16" "T" wrenches, slowly remove the vent plug from tia center of the filter housing and bleed off any remaining pressure. Wipe up any oil that comes out of the vent hole. Set the plug on a clean rag or paper towel.

5.3.7 Attach the filter housing adapter to the "T" wrench and unscrew the filter housing cover. When it is loose, remove the cover, being careful not to lose the filter retaining spring, Set the cover aside on a clean rag or towel.

5.3.8 Remove the spring and filter retainer plate and set them aside.

5.3.9 Remove the filter and put it in a bag.

5.3.10 Insert a new filter, ensuring a gasket is in place on both ends. Also ensure the filter seats over the nipple in the bottom of the housing. (Gaskets tend to roll out of the filter ends.)

5.3.11 Replace the filter retainer plate and spring. Wipe ofTthe cap and inspect the 0-ring for defects. Replace it if necessary. Replace the cap and, using the wrench, tighten until snug.

5.3.12 Inspect the O ring on the vent plug, replace it if necessary. Replace the vent plug.

5.3.13 Open the oil supply valve and replace the locking pin. Clean up any spilled oil.
