Inspection Summary )

Inspection Conducted January 30 through February 3,1989 (Report 50-482/89-12)

Areas Inspected: Routine, unannounced inspection of certain areas of the

physical security program. The areas inspected within the' physical security

program included: management support, licensee event report followup, security

program plan, and audits; protected and vital area physical barriers, detection

and assessment aids; protected and vital area access. control of personnel,

packages, and vehicles; alarm stations and communications; power supply;

testing, maintenance, and compensatory measures; and security training and

qualifications.

Results: Within the areas inspected, one apparent violation was identified

(inadequate assessment aids, paragraph 4).

A clear understanding of technical issues continues to be demonstrated.

Approaches are usually viable, but the timeliness of implementation'tends to be-

slow. The administrative activities associated with'the fitness for duty

.

program continue to be very good' The licensee recognizes the need to include

.

testing for alcohol abuse into their program, but have not yet settled on an

appropriate technique.
