==Dear Mr. Simpson:==
==Dear Mr. Simpson:==
By letter dated March 31, 2015, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received the decommissioning funding status (DFS) reports for Exelon Fleet plants, including Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2, and Byron Station, Units 1 and 2 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML 15090A537). The enclosed table identifies either the amount of decommissioning funding assurance calculated by NRC staff as required by Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (10 CFR) 50.75 (b) and (c) or the Site Specific Cost Estimate provided by the licensee, and the licensee's estimated decommissioning trust fund balance at the end of decommissioning. Based on the staff's review of Exelon Generation Company, LLC (Exelon) submittal, the NRC has determined that as of December 31, 2014, Exelon has satisfied the decommissioning funding assurance reporting requirements of 10 CFR 50. 75, "Reporting and Recordkeeping for Decommissioning Planning." The NRC determined that Exelon Generation provided decommissioning funding assurance as required in the regulations at 10 CFR 50.75 for Byron Station, Unit No. 1. The NRC determined that Exelon Generation has not provided decommissioning funding assurance as required in the regulations at 10 CFR 50.75 for Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2 and Byron Station, Unit No. 2. The NRC staff calculated Exelon's self-reported shortfalls to range from $6 million to $83 million. The regulation at 10 CFR 50.75(c) requires licensees to demonstrate reasonable assurance of funding for decommissioning. Shortfalls should, therefore, be corrected in a timely manner. In any event, guidance in Regulatory Guide 1.159, "Assuring Availability of Funds for Decommissioning Nuclear Reactors," states, "shortfalls identified in a biennial report must be corrected by the time the next biennial report is due." Therefore, Exelon is expected to correct any decommissioning funding shortfalls in a timely manner and report compliance to the NRC on or before March 31, 2017. Regulatory Guide 1.159 provides possible mechanisms Exelon can use to make up the shortage of funds, including reliance on normal decommissioning trust fund growth, cash deposits into trust funds, and/or parent company guarantees. The 2015 DFS report findings are publicly available and can be found at ADAMS Accession No. ML 15237 A369.

BRAIDWOOD STATION UNITS 1 AND 2, AND BYRON STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION ANALYSIS OF EXELON GENERATION'S DECOMMISSIONING FUNDING STATUS REPORT

Dear Mr. Simpson:

By letter dated March 31, 2015, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received the decommissioning funding status (DFS) reports for Exelon Fleet plants, including Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2, and Byron Station, Units 1 and 2 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML15090A537).

Based on the staff's review of Exelon Generation Company, LLC (Exelon) submittal, the NRC has determined that as of December 31, 2014, Exelon has satisfied the decommissioning funding assurance reporting requirements of 10 CFR 50. 75, "Reporting and Recordkeeping for Decommissioning Planning."

The NRC determined that Exelon Generation provided decommissioning funding assurance as required in the regulations at 10 CFR 50.75 for Byron Station, Unit No.

ML15237A369.

BRAIDWOOD STATION UNITS 1 AND 2, AND BYRON STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION ANALYSIS OF EXELON GENERATION'S DECOMMISSIONING FUNDING STATUS REPORT

Dear Mr. Simpson:

By letter dated March 31, 2015, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) received the decommissioning funding status (DFS) reports for Exelon Fleet plants, including Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2, and Byron Station, Units 1 and 2 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML15090A537).

Based on the staff's review of Exelon Generation Company, LLC (Exelon) submittal, the NRC has determined that as of December 31, 2014, Exelon has satisfied the decommissioning funding assurance reporting requirements of 10 CFR 50. 75, "Reporting and Recordkeeping for Decommissioning Planning."

The NRC determined that Exelon Generation provided decommissioning funding assurance as required in the regulations at 10 CFR 50.75 for Byron Station, Unit No.

ML15237A369.
